Many years ago I had the amazing opportunity to do some humanitarian work in Ghana. I was incredibly touched by the happiness of Ghana’s people, it was nothing short of life changing to see huge smiles on their faces despite sometimes living without shoes, electricity, or running water. This was one of the first trips I took outside of the US. Not only did I leave more grateful for the things I have (and make me think about what I really need) , it left me with a curiosity and yearn to see more of the world.
The children there were so excited to have visitors, but very confused by my skin. They wouldn't stop rubbing my arm and would fight over who got to hold my hand.
This was the first time I had seen elephants in the wild. It was so cute to see the moms splashing their babies with water to keep them look and holding their little tale with their trunks.
