Staying at an eco friendly resort or camping in the desert have been some of my favorite trips. I love to unplug and enjoy every moment of what is around me. When I am on vacation I like to tone down my beauty routines, but looking gorgeous which can be tricky when you don't have access to power or hot water. Below I share some tips for how to look chic for when you are staying off the grid.
Get a pre-departure blowout
I have very finicky corse hair that requires a lots of tlc and so going to an off the grid resort is sometimes a little stressful for me. I want my hair to look good, but I also want to enjoy being offline. I have found that my hair stays looking good much longer if I get a blowout either the night before or morning of my trip. When I swim I also avoid getting my hair wet by putting it up or keeping it in a scarf.
And if you don't want to spend money in the salon here are some of my favorite products to give yourself an at home blowout:
Steam clothes and transport in a garment bag
If your hotel doesn't have electricity it's going to be very tricky to get wrinkles out of clothes and your water probably won't get hot enough to steam them in the shower. Before I fly, I like to steam those easily wrinkled pieces and bring them in an garment bag. Sometimes the flight attendants are nice enough to let you hang them up front. If not, you can carefully lay the bag on top of the overhead luggage.
Bring make-up remover wipes
The water at off the grid resorts can sometime be un-purified and salty which makes my skin freak out or I have used bottled water that I don't want to waste. I like to bring make-up remover clothes for taking off my makeup. Plus after one too many cocktails I'm more likely to quickly use a make-up wipe rather than full on wash my face.
